Living Expenses

Beijing is an international city where you can find both very expensive goods and cheaper goods depending on your taste. However, overall living expenses in Beijing are relatively low compared with other major cities in Europe, North America and East Asia.
Generally, average expenses each month will vary from RMB3000 to RMB10000 (including the dormitory fees or rent) for an international student. The variation depends on personal consumption style. For example, if you eat local food everyday (an average meal costs RMB10), share a dorm room, and take public transport rather than taxis, you will spend very little. If you rent a newly-built apartment in an excellent location, dine at Western restaurants for every meal, and take cabs everywhere, your expenses may be as high as they would be in the West.
