Ten students from Johnson County Community College will be studying in Xi’an, China this fall, thanks to a full-ride scholarship offered by Northwestern Polytechnical University(NPU).

NPU and JCCC have been affiliated for more than 20 years, but this is the first time JCCC has sent a group of students to study for a semester at NPU.

The full-ride scholarships are offered by the Chinese government to the partners of their top universities as part of the 100,000 Strong Initiative, a national effort designed to dramatically increase the number of American students studying in China as well as to diversify the types of students studying there.

The 10 students will be enrolled in an intensive Chinese language and culture program for the semester, with the option to take an engineering course if the student is interested. The students will live in the international student dormitory and receive a monthly stipend to cover most of their meal expenses.
