Addison Cartwright may only be 16, but the Braintree resident is thinking ahead.

“Since I’m interested in a career in international business and China is becoming an economic powerhouse, I have family friends who convinced me that it would be a good idea to learn their language,” said Addison, who has been studying Chinese since his freshman year at Boston College High School.

Addison was one of 30 BC High students who applied for a four-week academic exchange program offered in conjunction with a Chinese high school attached to Beijing Normal University(BNU).

While he was in Beijing, Addison attended daily language classes as well as classes in Chinese history and culture.

Addison  participated in excursions to the Great Wall of China, the Forbidden City and the ancient city of Xi’an.

“The Great Wall was absolutely amazing,” he said. “ I’ve never seen anything like it. We had to hike up a mountain to get to the Great Wall. We woke up at 4 a.m. and got to see the sun rise over it.”
